Necrotizing fasciitis and septic shock related to the uncommon gram-negative pathogen Sphingobacterium multivorum.
We report the first case of necrotizing fasciitis due to the uncommon Gram-negative pathogen Sphingobacterium multivorum in an immunocompromised patient, who presented with septic shock. This case adds necrotizing fasciitis to the spectrum of S. multivorum-related infections and highlights the emergence of Gram-negative bacteria in severe soft tissue infections.
متن کاملIgm-enriched polyclonal immunoglobulins in an experimental model of gram negative pneumonia developing septic shock
Introduction Severe pneumonia is a major challenge in the Intensive Care Unit, as it is characterized by high morbidity and mortality. A high rate of patients with pneumonia, in particular ventilator-associated poneumonia, develops septic shock. Although some interesting results have been reported in uncontrolled studies where IgMenriched human intravenous immunoglobulins were added to the stan...
متن کاملBioartificial kidney ameliorates gram-negative bacteria-induced septic shock in uremic animals.
The bioartificial kidney (BAK) consists of a conventional hemofiltration cartridge in series with a renal tubule assist device (RAD) containing 10(9) porcine renal proximal tubule cells. BAK replaces filtration, transport, and metabolic and endocrinologic activities of a kidney. Previous work in an acutely uremic dog model demonstrated that BAK ameliorated endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide [LPS])-i...
متن کاملSafety and efficacy of polymyxin B in multidrug resistant Gram-negative severe sepsis and septic shock
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The emergence of multidrug resistant strains of Gram-negative bacteria, especially the lactose nonfermenters like Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter, in the intensive care units have prompted renewed worldwide interest in the polymyxins. However, perceived nephrotoxicity has been a major vexation limiting their early and regular use in severe sepsis. This study was conducted to a...
متن کاملThe Role of Adjunctive Therapies in Septic Shock by Gram Negative MDR/XDR Infections
Patients with septic shock by multidrug resistant microorganisms (MDR) are a specific sepsis population with a high mortality risk. The exposure to an initial inappropriate empiric antibiotic therapy has been considered responsible for the increased mortality, although other factors such as immune-paralysis seem to play a pivotal role. Therefore, beyond conventional early antibiotic therapy and...
